There
is nothing like a photograph to show you
the world, real life and beyond ...
Julie Ponder Photography
JULIE PONDER’S PHOTOGRAPHIC GALLERY
where you will see spectacular images of an Australia that
most people never see.
"I have been an enthusiastic photographer since
childhood, starting with a Box Brownie at 8 years old and
progressing through numerous film cameras to the wonders of
digital image-making. Studying Art in my 20s, I spent 10 years
employed as a painter/illustrator at The Australian Museum."
"It was always more important to me to work with
artistic changes of shape, color and emotional expression
in my photos than to produce a technically perfect reproduction
of reality. In my “old fashioned” darkroom, these
effects involved filters, torches and cardboard cutouts. The
process took a lot of time and exposure to hazardous chemicals,
so I was delighted to graduate to a "digital darkroom"
in 2005 and use the fantastic tools in image manipulation
programs to optimize the tone, luminance and contrast of my
pictures."

Limited Edition
Julie processes her own photographs in her studio, limiting
herself to only 100 collector pieces from each image. Every
print is signed and has a hand-written title.
Long-Life Product
All photographs are printed with archival pigment-based ink:
• A3 size - Epson UltraChrome Ink
• A4 size - Epson DuraBrite Ink.
The prints are vacuum pressed onto acid free foam core, and
finished with a mat board in off-white or black.
Galleries
Many of Julie’s photographs are taken on expeditions
to unusual places in the Australian outback. Frequently on
private property, access requires permission from station
owners and skill at navigating off-road. These adventures
give Julie the opportunity to photograph scenery seen by very
few people and develop her own way of expressing what she
sees.
See Australia
Start your tour of Ponder Photography with a visit to the
Arid
Zone Gallery which features images of the gibber desert,
clay pans, bull dust and endless roads of western Queensland,
and the wind-carved rocks and sandy scrub country of Western
Australia.
Moving to the Inland
Water Gallery, you will be shown remarkable oases that
exist in the vast expanses of the desert. Artesian springs
rise out of the clay and sand to form pools. Crystal clear
rivers cut through rock and meander across dry savannah grasslands.
The Seashore
Gallery provides you with images of fascinating rock formations,
stormy seascapes and unusual depictions of marine fauna.
For a marked change of scene, visit the Forest
and River Gallery for vignettes of Tasmania – delicate
alpine flowers, lush rainforests, misty rivers and strange
eucalypts.
The Town
and Country Gallery depicts scenery shaped by Man, from
buildings to parks and farms. It includes glimpses of our
convict heritage in some spectacular shots through sandstone
ruins on the Tasman Peninsula.
