Good Looks Improve Self-Esteem
| One year and six months ago I set foot
on the plane that would take me to the United States
of America. Being a born and bread French lady, I was
excited but reserved (as it seems to be our way) about
trip to study English in USA. It's not that I wasn't
thrilled with the idea: I had been thinking about jumping
to the other continent for quite some time and this
opportunity sponsored by the fashion magazine I work
at was the perfect chance I needed. I was reserved because
I had my doubts about how things would go. I had never
been in North America and had heard that a lot of people
were badly predisposed towards French people, which
was worrying.
Three Fundamental Skin Care Techniques No
Woman Should Skip
- Cleanse the skin no more than twice daily with
a mild cleaner that doesn't over dry you skin
and that is suited to your skin type.
- Gently ex-foliate your skin on a daily basis to
remove dead skin cells and expose newer, healthier
glowing skin underneath.
- Apply a moisturiser, bonus points of it has a
sunscreen of at least SPF 15.
Good or bad disposition I knew one thing always remained
truth: you need to look your best in order to be your
best. Looks are important because they reflect how
much you care for yourself.

I'm not talking about how you apply make-up or
what shoes you wear, but if you take care of your
body, it will take care of you as well. One of the
things that was holding me back was my constant fear
of being around other people because I've always
had what I consider to be horrible facial acne. Somehow
the trip set me in motion to finally do something
about my acne and my fears and with the power of the
whole crew behind a fashion magazine, I decided to
start the war on acne!

| The first step with any skin ailment
is always to ensure proper skin care. In this case a
good cleanser was my first step in my fight against
acne. I found out that I would need to remove both the
oil and the dead skin cells that usually sit on the
surface of the skin in order to prevent the physical
blockage of the pores that causes acne. In order to
do that I needed a good cleanser or defoliant that contained
both alpha and beta hydroxyl acids. The second step
was to make sure that my make-up was up for the task.
Make-up is a great ally when you're trying to look
good, but can be a deadly foe when fighting acne. Foundations
(even those self proclaimed free of oils) can actually
block your pores and cause the dreaded acne. This wouldn't
be so nefarious if not because most people will react
to that by using more make-up to cover it up... which
causes more acne. It was hard for me to realize this
cycle, so make sure you don't fall into it. What
I needed was mineral make-up, since it won't cover
the pores and will sit on the surface of the skin.
Once I had kick started my treatment and gave myself
the benefit of a few pep talks, I finally embarked on
my learning journey. Upon arrival to the big and busy
New York I was quick to find the apartment where I would
be staying. I was lucky since there was a local liaison
with my company running some stories there. He helped
me to settle down and showed me around the city for
the first two weeks or so. I was truly amazed at how
much is going on in New York at once, it is called the
city that never sleeps, but people should also tell
you that with so many things going on it also seems
that the city has a strong case of ADHD. The time for
the classes to start was looming near and I was quite
nervous about it but I also knew that I would pull through
and that I would learn English in USA and have a blast
as well! |
